Appendix
In addition to Sacred Scripture, the Catechism frequently refers to or directly quotes from various written sources within the Church. These sources fall into nine categories:
- Scripture (Old Testament and New Testament)
- professions of faith (creeds)
- decrees of ecumenical councils
- decrees of particular councils and synods
- pontifical (papal) documents
- ecclesiastical documents
- canon law
- liturgical documents
- ecclesiastical writers
This appendix provides an overview of these sources, while the Index of Citations gives a complete list of where these sources are cited in the Catechism.
Like the Glossary, this appendix is an aid for using the Catechism itself. It does not share in the approval of the text of the Catechism given in the Apostolic Constitution Fidei Depositum of St. John Paul II.
